Surging Customer Demand Drives Major Expansion of Lineage Logistics’ Footprint in Vietnam

Hanoi expansion ideally positioned to cater for growing trade between Vietnam and China and Southeast Asia

Lineage sees major potential for further expansion in Vietnam to serve growing intra-country sophisticated supply chains

Lineage pays tribute to its Vietnamese workforce for ensuring vital food supply chains remained operational during last year’s Covid lockdown

Hanoi, Vietnam - Lineage Logistics, LLC (“Lineage” or the “Company”), the world’s largest and most innovative temperature-controlled industrial REIT and logistics solutions provider, today announced it is more than doubling the capacity of its Bac Ninh, Hanoi facility.

The facility will be expanded from 8,000 to 20,000-pallet positions to meet surging demand from customers servicing Vietnam’s growing perishable food sector.

The facility is used to store and distribute frozen, chilled, and ambient food products to northern Vietnam’s major regional centres and store food products for export, particularly seafood.

“The Hanoi facility expansion will further broaden our reach across Vietnam and Asia more broadly due to its prime location on the key trade routes with China and Southeast Asia,” Jeff Hogarth, Lineage’s President of Asia Pacific, said.

“Vietnam is a key food production and distribution hub, so this is a strategic expansion that will benefit customers across the region.

“We also see great potential for further expansion in Vietnam, given the region’s under-developed cold store supply chain, growing customer demand for high quality logistics solutions and growing income levels, spurring consumption of more perishable goods.”

The expanded facility will incorporate solar panels as part of the Company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

In addition to the economic boost provided by the construction of the facility’s extension, Lineage Logistics will create 50 new long-term jobs to operate the facility.

Lineage Logistics’ Vietnam team has adapted throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, including staffing two Lineage facilities in Ho Chi Minh and Binh Duong to run continuously for three months to ensure essential foods were distributed to Vietnamese citizens.

“The dedication and selflessness of our employees during this extremely difficult time allowed us to ensure the distribution of critical food supplies was uninterrupted and maintain the food supply chain throughout the lockdown,” Vien Nguyen Huu, Regional Vice President at Lineage, said.

Construction of the Hanoi expansion has begun and is due to be completed in July 2022. Lineage Logistics entered the Vietnamese market in 2019 with its acquisition of Preferred Freezer Services. The company has operations in Ho Chi Minh, Binh Duong and Bac Ninh.

Acquisitions of H&S Coldstores and Frigocare Rotterdam BV bring additional cold-storage capacity to the Company’s leading facility footprint in Benelux

“We are pleased to welcome Van Tuyl Logistics into the One Lineage Family as we continue to build momentum and further expand our European operations,” said Harld Peters, Senior Vice President, Europe at Lineage. “The Netherlands remains a critical hub for the food cold chain within the European market, given its central location and accessibility to key seaports and inland terminals. Accordingly, the addition of Van Tuyl will help Lineage to connect more points across our customers’ extended supply chains.”

Lineage Logistics Expands Port-Centric Facility Footprint in Savannah, Georgia

Company is set to break ground on a greenfield site that will handle imported fresh produce and perishables out of the Port of Savannah

Lineage opens Phase 1 of a temperature-controlled warehouse that provides additional capacity for imported and exported frozen and refrigerated product

Novi, MI – December 14, 2021 – Lineage Logistics, LLC (“Lineage” or the “Company”), the world’s largest and most innovative temperature-controlled industrial REIT and logistics solutions provider, today announced the strategic expansion of its facility network near the major port in Savannah, Georgia.

“It’s a pleasure to see Lineage Logistics continue to invest in Georgia,” said Governor Brian P. Kemp. “Hardworking Georgians and our top-notch training programs like Georgia Quick Start continue to give companies the confidence they need to expand by showing them that Georgia’s workforce is not only skilled, but up to the task.”

“Savannah is the fastest growing port and largest single container terminal in North America. Lineage’s new facilities in this high-demand location will provide additional capacity and value-added services in a critical market for our customers,” said Greg Lehmkuhl, Lineage’s President and CEO. “We are constantly looking for ways to maximize and further streamline Lineage’s total supply chain, and our meaningful growth in Savannah will offer customers increased access to faster, more reliable distribution opportunities to markets across the Southeast.”

Today, Lineage announced its plans to break ground on a next-generation facility near the Port of Savannah to handle fresh produce and perishable imports. The Company will invest $62 million in the new building, which, upon completion, will create 65 new jobs in Chatham County’s Port Wentworth, in addition to nearly 100 jobs required for the project’s construction. Operating as a cross-dock, in which product enters one side of the building and exits the other side via truck on the same day, the facility will also provide fumigation, packaging and other value-added services for customers to move fresh product efficiently to markets across the Southeast. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2022.

In addition, Lineage announced the Phase I opening of its temperature-controlled warehouse on Tremont Road adjacent to the Port of Savannah. Serving both imported and exported products like poultry, the facility features a 19,000-square-foot blast freezer, a boxing room and customs brokerage capabilities to provide streamlined processing in and out of the port. Once fully operational, the facility will employ up to 100 Georgia residents.

“We are thrilled to see Lineage’s significant investment in further strengthening our port infrastructure,” said Cliff Pyron, Chief Commercial Officer of the Georgia Port Authority. “Additional capacity to support our growth will be a benefit to port community as a whole.”

“Congratulations to Lineage Logistics, an international leader in the food supply chain industry, on their two expansions in Savannah. Their use of innovative technology, Savannah’s exceptional workforce and their partnership with the Georgia Ports Authority has led to their past success and laid the groundwork for their future growth in Savannah,” said Savannah Economic Development Authority President and CEO Trip Tollison.

Combined, the newly announced facilities expand Lineage’s presence in the market by more than 500,000 square feet of capacity. In total, the Company’s network will span four facilities in Savannah with twelve facilities across the State of Georgia.

Aligned with President Biden’s announcement on October 13, 2021 to invest in a secure and sustainable supply chain in the United States, Lineage has installed a 3.3MW solar array and 460kW of linear generators at its Colton Agua Mansa facility in California’s Inland Empire that, combined, will produce 100% of the facility’s energy consumption on a net basis. These advancements are indicative of Lineage’s continued prioritization of energy reduction, which started with the introduction of the Company’s responsible energy reduction roadmap in 2015.

“Lineage always strives to be responsible leaders in the communities where we live and work, and our commitment to advancing the future of renewable energy at our locations is no exception,” said Chris Thurston, head of renewable energy projects for Lineage. “Lineage is already a model for the industry with our innovative development and deployment of industry-leading technologies. Responsibly creating our own energy is an important sustainability milestone, and I am excited to see how this achievement further inspires our commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040.”

Lineage partnered with PowerFlex, a national provider of renewable energy infrastructure, to install the rooftop solar array in Colton – the second largest solar array in the Company’s leading global network of temperature-controlled warehouses. The facility has 8,426 individual solar panels that will generate an estimated 5.4 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually. The Colton array is one of several onsite solar installations that PowerFlex is supporting across Lineage’s distribution centers in the United States.

"As Lineage’s long-term partner in renewable energy, we are incredibly proud to share and help execute their bold vision for impactful solar solutions across their extensive network,” said PowerFlex Director Danny Ptak. "The onsite solar project in Colton demonstrates Lineage’s ongoing commitment to deploying innovative solutions to ensure that its operations are as sustainable as humanly possible."

The onsite linear generators, a new technology launched in March by Mainspring Energy, create electricity using a low-temperature reaction of fuel and air. Distinct from an engine or fuel cell, a linear generator directly converts motion into electricity using chemical or thermal energy. The units ramp up and down usage to enable maximum use of the building’s solar array, ensuring reliability and optimal use of renewable power at all times. This increases the site’s resiliency by reducing grid dependency and lowers operating costs. Lineage’s Colton location is the first facility in the world with two linear generators, and the first of its kind to integrate a linear generator with solar panels. The two generators were installed in October.

“Commercial and industrial buildings account for more than a third of electricity usage in the United States and play an essential role in the energy transition,” said Mainspring CEO Shannon Miller. “Mainspring designed the linear generator to accelerate this transition by delivering resilient, sustainable, and affordable generation that is also ideal for pairing with solar and other renewables. We are proud to partner with Lineage, an industry leader and pioneer in deploying innovative energy technologies.”

In December 2020, Lineage’s increased its commitment to energy reduction by implementing new and innovative technologies. In 2021, Lineage was recognized by the United States Department of Energy for Outstanding Accomplishments in Energy Efficiency for the third year in a row and the Department of Energy’s Better Plants Challenge with a commitment to reduce energy intensity by 25% by 2024
